1883-P "V" Nickel No "CENTS"

Now how can you tell the difference between a Proof strike and a Business strike on these Nickels?

The stars are not well defined on this coin. While that is not diagnostic, in this case they are weak enough to take a 99% confident guess that it's a commercial strike, not a proof.

 

Incidentally, fully prooflike 1883 n/c nickels are well known to exist.

I am on the fence owning a Proof myself.

With out better pictures

A nice straight on picture when it comes in will help tremedously with its type and grade.

The picture is blurry so it makes it harder to grade this piece. I’d say MS-64 or 65, possible P-L although it’s rare to see that addition to the grade. I don’t think that the coin is a Proof because of the weakness in some of the star lines. Here is a Proof example of the No Cents nickel in PR-65.
