Post a Coin for Pearl Harbour Day

16 posts in this topic

December 7th, 1941.... a Day which will live in Infamy. Like him or not, FDR crafted many of the 20th century's most well known speeches. Post a coin in remembrance of the attacks on Pearl Harbour, and in commemoration of the Greatest Generation.

My coin is a 1959 end of roll toner with classic stripey pattern, purchased just this week from jerseycat10

It is thought that the die pair used to create the 1941-S Large S Jefferson Nickels was used at the end of the year. Who knows, maybe this coin was actually minted on December 7th, 1941.

This piece was struck the following year, but the War Nickel was a direct result of the Pearl Harbor attack. The Japanese attack prompted FDR’s famous speech and Congress to declare war on Japan. After that the Germans declared war on The United States.

My parents were married on December 6, 1941, so yesterday would have been their 70th wedding anniversary. Rest in peace, Mom & Dad.

I figured that someone would start a thread in remembrance of Pearl Harbor, so I decided to wait for a thread like this to honor both my parents and those who served our country in World War II.

I guess you could call the nuclear-powered version of the USS Enterprise the son of the "Big E".

I got married on December 7, 1973 (38 years ago today). I never forget my anniversary because the news always replays President Roosevelt’s famous address to Congress at this time of year: “December 7, 1941 a day that will live in infamy … “ and I go duh it’s my anniversary!
