Circulated Half Dollar Rolls posted by walnutto

Bank Wrapped from $500 boxes

I have noticed there are a few sellers on Ebay offering $10 half dollar rolls unsearched. Talk about a questionable way to search for 40% silver Kennedys and 90% silver halves. First, just about anyone with a bank connection can buy a few rolls for face value of the rolls. Bank by law can not make a profit, some though charge so much a roll to cover their expenses. Second, Silver weighs more than straight clad coins. Even though dealers are stating "unsearched" doesn't mean they haven't weighed the roll.

Buyer Beware!! There maybe honest sellers out there but why take a chance when you can get them from banks.

Keith,

Good advise my friend. There are so many BS sellers out there that it is hard to warn everyone about all of it.

Happy Coin Collecting

I'm with Keith and Rick, I think most dealers would open that roll, pull the gems and stuff with some sliders for retailing. Your local bank is definately your best bet for roll searching.

I "third" the sentiment. Bank rolls are definitely the way to go. It amazes me what you can find sometimes. And I think you would be hard pressed to find a bank that would even bother to charge you to cover costs. They have the rolls sitting there and most tellers would love for you to take their half dollar rolls.

No doubt.. everytime I see the term "unsearched" I start to laugh. I seen an ad on Ebay for an "unsearched" roll of Morgans from a bank in Carson City. The ad went on to say that there might be a rare CC in the roll. Guess that bank only collected CC morgans huh? ha ha ha... Typical Ebay BS.

I do enjoy some of the folks on Ebay. Especially the "Price Gouging Union". They love to argue prices on coins. I support somebody making a profit but when they mark up the coin by 300-400 percent.. come on! Then they try to justifiy there prices.. I cant wait to see the real 25th Anniversary wave hit Ebay.. time to grab the old boots because the will get deep.

I live near Washington DC and the banks here hesitate to let anyone that does not have a business account, get rolls of coins.

I really wish eBay wasn't so dirty. I am afraid to buy anything from them. It's kind of like meeting someone in person you have just met online. There are a few that I have dealt with several times and they always give me a good honest deal. I consider ALL Morgan dollars to be Chinese counterfeits!!!

Check for a local Bank of America. Most of them have no problem at all selling rolls of coins to anyone in the public even if they dont have an account with their bank. I have never had an account with them and so far 7 different branch offices have sold me rolls of coins such as unopened presidentual dollars, native american dollars, etc.
