Tough to find info for 1953 south african proof set

I :eek:'m trying to find out about a 2 coin proof set that I acquired. The set is in the original box marked SAM on the inside. The 2 coins in the set are gold proof 1/2 pound & 1 pound coins dated 1953. Obverse shows Queen Elizabeth II and the reverse a spring bok.

Hi, welcome to the board. All I have found out so far is that there were only 1000 of these sets minted. I can give you weights and gold content for the coins if you need it. The two coins are listed as KM53 and KM54 in the Krause world coin catalog.

What information are you actually trying to find? The coins are listed in Krause if you want to know the mintage which is (I believe) 4000 for each coin. The mintage of 1000 sounds right for the two coin set but others were sold as part of the 11 coin "long sets" with the silver and bronze.
