1886-p morgan DMPL

7 posts in this topic

i know it can be hard to grade PL and DPL morgans due to the reflective surfaces showing every single mark. I got this piece awhile ago, never submitted it, but i think it would be MS63DPL maybe even 64DPL what do you guys think?

It is nearly impossible to tell PL vs DMPL from a picture. The coin has clearly reflective surfaces, but to gauge the depth is impossible.

It looks like a pretty clean coin, and I would have no problem calling it a 64+ from those pictures.

Based on the images, I would have no problem calling it a MS64 PL (cannot determine whether it actually makes DMPL based on the photos) unless it has a lot of ticks that are not present in the photo.

I'll offer my two cent piece and say it'll go 64+ with a slight chance at PL if they're having a stickler day in the office. It doesn't look DPL to me at all but it could just be the pictures.

Too many field issues for me ...

MS62PL

I agree with this. Maybe a shot at 63. PL and DMPL coins are a bugger to image. Below is a coin that came back 62 PL. With different techniques I can make the coin LOOK like a 64, more or less as in the second shot. I thought this one was a shot at 63 because of the Gem reverse, and a shot at DMPL because the fields are watery and I could read text clearly at 8", but the TPGs are sure tough these days.
