Found a BU+ coin in a metal can Metal Detecting

I found 6 near Bu 1877 Seated half in a old metal snuff can that was in the ground.

but rust from can leached on to 2 of them how can I remove the rust?

I can not recommend any home conservation methods. Many times not only can the chemicals used in home conservation cause further damage but the technique used as well can be irreversibly damaging.

 

We have had some success in removing rusty residues from the surface of coins in the past. My recommendation would be to submit the coin for professional conservation to have the residues removed.
