1874 Six Pence with 1885 India Two Annas

5 posts in this topic

Somewhere in my life I acquired an 1874 Six Pence attached to an 1885 India Two Annas. They are attached with a small chain.

Thoughts on origin, history, and possible values?

Both coins lost a lot of their value when the holes were drilled to put them on the chain.

The sixpence is quite worn, probably VG at best, and worth about $3, while the two annas looks VF or better. Nice coin without the hole, and still worth about $14.

They are on the chain because someone acquired the coins, liked the young Victoria portraits and thought, "I'll wear them!"

Or possibly a gift from a man to his sweetheart. That would be my guess.

I'll take a picture of the whole thing tomorrow, but the chain itself is only about 2 inches long. I'm not sure who placed it on there or why. Heck, I don't even remember where I got this coin. I've had it for years (15+ at least).

This may only be a piece of the chain as in part of a bracelet or watch chain. The coins would dangle from the chain as decorations.
