2010 P Hot Springs ATB 5 oz. new variety?

2 posts in this topic

Hi, I recently submitted a 2010 P Hot Springs ATB. The word "SPRINGS" had depressions that looked like the letters were sort of joined together. My coin received an SP 69 grade. I had asked for a variety, or error, designation on the submission form. I have seen other coins that were similar, but not as pronounced as mine. Could this be a future variety? This has been a hot topic on other forums, too. Thanks in advance for your answer. BT

Hi BT,

Thank you for your question. This is actually just die deterioration. As the dies reached the later stages of their use this raised area around the letters became more prominent. It's not a variety or an error -- just a later "die state". We are not putting anything on the label to note this appearance.
