1892 Barber Dime -- Date Issue?

How common are "added dates" to coins? Or am I just seeing something else here?

Nothwithstanding the anomaly with the date any thoughts on a grade?

The "anomaly" you see around the date is called "pull-away toning" and is a nearly 100% sign that the toning is original. It happens because the density around devices is different, from the metal movement during striking, and thus the area tones differently, or not at all. Coin Doctors have not learned how to effectively duplicate this artifact, and many find it interesting. Take a look at the toned Morgans that Shane posts, and I guarantee you will see it on quite a few.

 

Hard to tell, but it is either an AU-58 or MS-62.
