Coin Dipping

2 posts in this topic

I am a long time coin collector but have never dipped a coin. I am hoping you can advise me on the proper way to dip a coin? Are there certain procedures I should follow to do this myself?

Thank you for your question. I would not recommend that anyone who is inexperienced with properly dipping a coin to attempt it. While dipping is a relatively common procedure, there is a lot of potential to cause irreversible damage to the coin's surfaces.

Instead, you may want to consider submitting your coin to NCS (www.ngccoin.com) for careful conservation. The NCS conservators will first examine your coin to see if it could benefit from conservation and they can carefully remove any surfaces contaminants without harming the coin.
