RAISED RIMS ON COINS???????

6 posts in this topic

Do they add to or take away value from a coin? How common are they on proof coins compared to circulated coins? All answers welcome.

No idea on how rare they are here but a recent article in CoinWorld said that the raised rims were supposed to fall off when they fell in the vat. That was a new one on me.

Just from that it would seem that raised rims would be more rare for proofs.

I don't think so. It seems to be an error of the same degree as a machine doubled die and not worth much of a premium.

Maybe not even an error and more of an accident. There's a fine line there somewhere that all the books I've read haven't been able to define for me.
