Some eye candy for the Z-man

9 posts in this topic

As promised, I'm uploading photos of some of my newps since NYINC. The photos aren't very good. I had a lot of problems with the thicker NGC slabs, and I also don't have a good light source. Consequently, I had to tilt the coins, making them look oblong.

Most of my coins are very lustrous or even PL. Hard to show those qualities when I needed 4 hands to do the imaging. :(

Anyway, I did the best I could. Hope you enjoy these. Without further ado (and no write-ups this time)...

JCM - my fav is Dav-5668 (1696 Nurnberg). It is gorgeous in hand, with PL flash and a wavy planchet. It is not the most expensive piece of the lot.

I've another piece, not shown, that was graded FDC by the dealer from whom I purchased the coin. In my truly honest opinion, the coin is spectacular. It is fresh-looking, and should've graded in the mid- to high-MS range. However, it is like a 1965 Washington 25c where the majority started its life looking AU-ish. And, that is what the TPG gave it. Needless to say, I am displeased. :(

Z-man - please send me a picture of your wife. We can talk. :D If you want, I'll send you a picture of my ex-wife. I have some choice pictures of her, but the gentleman in me so far has kept them private. [The gentleman in me says 'just kidding!'.]

EVP,

Try inserting a couple of dimes under the edge at each end of the slab the next time you need to tilt it. If the dime isn't thick enough, try a penny, nickel, quarter or half. If it is too thick, try a flat toothpick.

Chris,

That's a darn good idea. I also need to buy more desk lamps and a handheld mirror to target the light source.

Thanks!

Here's an idea for the mirror............

Try to find a couple old gooseneck desk lamps at a thrift store. Remove the bulb and reflector assembly. Superglue a hexhead machine screw to the back of a mirror of whatever size you need, and drill a hole through the end of the gooseneck so you can insert the screw through and secure it with a nut. That way you can adjust the angle or direction of the mirror any way you want and be completely hands-free.

Beautiful assortment, I particularly like the 1693 Henneberg-Ilmenau.

Then again I am a fool for chickens with crowns...
