Will NGC slab this counterstamped Peace Dollar as trial strike/prototype design

2 posts in this topic

It's double struck, with one strike being deeper than the other. On the reverse of the Peace Dollar is the image of a Jefferson nickel that was used as a spacer to make the 2nd strike deeper. The design was a prototype made for Mel Wacks' and was ultimately not selected. It is mentioned in Roger Burdette's Peace Dollar Book. The chosen design, pictured last, IS slabbed by NCG.

We have certified a few of these pieces. I would need to see it first hand, to be sure sure. I can't say for certain we would designate it as a trial strike either. We would need to substantiate that claim in order to do so.

Thanks,
