Very appealing medal Bugmann1974. When was it made?

I see 1869 is that the manufacture date or date of commemoration?

If it is 142 years old it is even more impressive.

According to the listing in Hedley Betts' "Medals of London Series", www.medalsofhteworld.com there were only 400 of these medals struck.

 

George Gammon Adams, 1821-1898, medallist & sculptor

This medal was struck in 1869 to commemorate the opening of the Blackfriars Bridge and the Holborn Valley Viaduct that year.

I agree great stuff! I had no idea it would last this long.

 

Here's an electrotype of a Wiener medal. It was not originally made to be deceptive. It could easily fool the unsuspecting though.

My first car was a 67 VW Bug. What a POS, but it certainly served its purpose. I drove that thing until the floor board rotted out and the clutch pedal fell to the road.
