...........what "MOUNT REMOVED" might mean.

The grades for my ANA Medals submission posted today, and I don't have any idea what this means. Could it be that someone may have removed it from the presentation case at one time (I do have them all!) and had it mounted in a piece of jewelry or something?

Thanks!

Chris

I don't recall seeing anything like that, but they were kept in the presentation cases (Capital holders) until just before I submitted them. To be honest, I wasn't concerned too much about their condition (grade potential). Each set is numbered, and each medal in each set has that number on the edge, so I wanted them encapsulated (more than anything) anyway. It's no big deal. I'm just curious as to what it means.

Some medals were made with an integral loop attached at the top, intended for suspension. I have seen occasional such pieces with the original mount removed, and the edge carefully filed down. Could that be the case?

Anything is possible, but I don't think that would have been the case with this numbered 3-medal set as it was originally packaged. Besides, both are 19mm, and that would be kind of small to hang from a ribbon. I thought that maybe someone put them in rings or something. I was thinking it may have been done by a previous owner. I just wanted to make sure I was thinking on the right lines about "MOUNT REMOVED".

I've seen a lot of people mention this before, but why not give them a call and see what the graders have to say? You never know, they might just have a really good explanation.

Regardless, Chris, those are some mighty handsome grades. You have a great eye for medals it seems.

Thanks, Jim! I was a pleasantly surprised that 25 of the 42 graded 68 & 69. I was hoping that all three proofs might get UCAM, but I can understand why the Bal Harbor didn't. It's design is very intricate. As soon as I receive them, I will start taking photos.
