Cleaning?

2 posts in this topic

I see from time to time where it says a coin was inappropriately cleaned, is there an approved way to clean coins?

Soap and Water?

I see some coin companies advertise various other products for cleaning, are these approved?

If I submit for certification I want to get the best grade possible with the best looking coin possible - what is acceptable?

Thanks !

I would never recommend that anyone other than a professional attempt to clean coins. NGC's sister company, NCS, does offer professional conservation so if your coins would benefit from that service I would encourage you to look into it (www.ncscoin.com). NCS will review your coins first for a small fee and let you know if they could benefit from conservation.

You may also want to submit your coins in their current state to NGC. If you try to clean them yourself you would likely do more harm than good.

Thank you for your question.
