Is it possible to conserve this coin?

Hello:

 

I was wondering it this coin could be conserved. It looks blacker than the picture and may have been in a fire or chimney at one time. Also, would I submit this coin to a NGC dealer to have it conserved and graded or could I submit myself as I am not a coin dealer? Please let me know.

It does look like your coin has been through a lot. I would not be able to determine exactly what might be done with your coin from the images but I can say that it is likely we could help the coin at least appear more like it should.

 

You can submit the coin yourself by becoming a paid member of the Collectors' Society or if you are a current member of the American Numismatic Association.
