I'm just wondering, I tried to join the PCGS forums and it said I need to be approved and I'll get an email. Well, that was yesterday morn. Does it usually take a while for that or was I rejected or something? I'm just wanting to extend my knowedge since I'm new to the hobby so I figured I'd check it out over there too.

 

Anyone know if this usually takes days to get ok'd to join there?

Yes. It's not instant approval like most forums.

 

Within a day or two you should receive the activation email with your assigned password, which you can change once you log into the forum, under your username.

Several years ago it was instant approval, but then there was a planned attack on the PCGS boards that I discovered and then alerted PCGS about the attack. At that point they instituted a new policy of a delay when someone creates an account.

I doubt they work on the weekend and Monday is a federal holiday so you may not be approved until tuesday.

I tried to create an account for two years, having made at least three attempts before PCGS finally approved my request early last year. I'm not sure why I was ignored or not approved originally; I hadn't done anything to anger anyone and at that point, I had never had any contact with customer service. It was very odd. I was still able to lurk, but it rendered the BST forum ATS completely worthless to me at the time.

A member that had been on the PCGS boards several years ago was getting into it with virtually everyone on the boards, yet was not banned because this was before PCGS did many bannings or had full-time moderators. He mentioned something that sounded odd to me on the board so I Googled the term and it linked me to a message board of the same name. On that message board this member used the same user name and had started a thread about how much he hated PCGS. He and his friends on that board then organized a plan that they would create dozens of false user names on the PCGS boards and then at the pre-determined time would attack the site with porn links, viruses and disruptive behavior. I read all this a few days before their planned launch and let PCGS know about it. PCGS then deactivated dozens of these clone accounts and the attack fizzled. This is when they stopped giving out automatic accounts to those who went to the site.

That's incredible. I can certainly understand a lot of PCGS policies in light of this information.
