Slabbing of Coins

2 posts in this topic

How do people afford to grade and slab coins that are of $20 and less in value?

Why would you go thru this process for such a coin knowing you will lose money or is there some reduced rate for such coins?

Thanks

J. Scott,

Thank you for your question. There are a number of reasons why people would slab low value coins. Many people like the security and peace of mind of a coin that has a guaranteed grade and authenticity. Other people want the coin slabbed so that they can add it to their Registry Set.

It is also possible that someone submitted the coin thinking that it was a higher grade (and hence more valuable) than it really was.

Lastly, we do offer dealers a reduced rate for some coins when submitted in bulk quantities.
