Black Dot on My Franklin

2 posts in this topic

Normaly I would not bother anyone with issues on such a common coin but this coin is in fantastic condition. Only issue is that it was stored in a 2x2 and there was a small pinprick in the plastic and a black mark about the size of half a grain of rice has formed right where the hole is. And it is right in the middle of his forehead.

Would you recommend your services to remove this black mark or is there a more cost effective method?

Thanks!

The exact nature of the spot on your coin would likely determine to level of success we might have in conserving your coin. Two causes of the appearance of a black spot on a silver coin such as yours come to mind. Either the spot is a residue or toning or even a combination of the two. If the spot is toning, we could likely reduce the spot and take steps to prevent it from worsening in the future but their likely will be some sort of evidence of its existence remaining. A residue spot is much more likely to result in complete eradication. In either instance, there will be a marked improvement in the appearance of the coin especially given the spot being in such a focal point.
