Design rejected by "The Commission of Fine Arts" in 1934. Good thing too. :)

Looks like a Vulture, not an Eagle.

It looks like a poor copy of the Texas commemorative half dollar to me.

Bill this is one of the initial models for the Texas Commemorative.

...the amazing thing is that the CFA rejected that eagle but approved the

 

prez buck designs! hm of course todays group aren't the same guys. :popcorn:

 

i guess back in 34 they REALLY had a choice of designs. :whistle:

That's simply a sketch model to work out the placement of design elements and legends. Sculptors of the time made several such proposals to solicit comments. If desired, a finished model would have been prepared.
