1881 O Vam Looking for a Wise Man

1 post in this topic

Here is an 1881 O that I can not seem to find how to attribute. A bit of a stumper to me. A Vam 1A shows a spike in the first 8 of the date which this has. The second 8 has a small chip or gouge in the upper left of the lower loop. Not much there and it just might be PMD.

The stumper is the mint mark. It has a much larger and crisper spike than the one seen in the first 8. And I find no mention of any spikes in an O mint mark. The strike is very good (hair is better than the photo shows). I might assume this was from an early strike in the 1881 O production. Anyone seen a spike as viewed in the O photo's? :frustrated :

Thanks

Chet
