Question on copper possible verdigris removal?

1 post in this topic

I've owned this 1841 HT-64 / Low-68 hard times token for a few years as is. It's bar none the finest example of it's variety and I've let sleeping dogs lie on this for years. I'm afraid that if I send it out for conservation I may not recognize this token upon return and I've seen previously conserved copper turn in the holder. I wouldn't want to chance sending something in that I'd want to own long term, yet every time I look at this I'm instantly drawn to the verdigris. I'm not too concerned with the verdigris in the center of the token, so could the growth on the obverse upper rim be spot treated? In NCS's experience what would the underlying copper surface appearance be post removal? Many thanks in advance!
