1851-O Pair

Thanks for the input and feedback...

What I think is cool is that these are two of the smalles regular issues ever produced and they came from the same mint and the same year.

And New Orleans only produced a trime in 1851.

The trime is cool! I have a 51-O gold dollar in AU-58 and there is a lot more detail in the hair, so I would guess yours is XF-45 as there appears to be some considerable wear on the high points. As for the trime, I have no clue how to grade them, but it sure is a pretty coin!

The technical grade for the 1851-O Three Cent piece is AU-50, but I don’t care for the toning. These coins were 75% silver and 25% copper, and for that reason a lot of them took on some very unattractive dark toning. The toning is natural, but it’s an example of how natural is not always attractive.

The gold dollar is an EF-40.
