1918 D 10c unsure about obverse

1 post in this topic

Just picked up a gem Mercury 1918 D at auction. On close inspection, the problem area in the B in LIBERTY resembles a lamination error, except the rim appears ever slightly dented in the same stroke.

Opinions? Would repairing the discoloration of the problem area help make this coin look more like a mint irregularity and less like a post-production problem?

Any other opinions on the surface of the coin, such as between 5 and 7 o'clock?

Thanks! 17.jpg&t=1918-D Mercury Dime, Gem
