AU Details "Repaired"

I sent an 1894 O to NGC and it was graded AU Details "Repaired". First one of these (many improperly cleaned). Is there any value to this coin now?

The 1894-O dollar is an expensive to very expensive coin in MS-63 and higher. In EF and lower it's worth less and $85. Chances are a repaired coin would not be worth that much, but it's hard to judge without a picture.

 

Repair work can restore some value to a coin, but it's usually only worth paying the top guys in the field to do it if it is a rare coin. On the other hand if the repair work is done poorly, it can be a negative.

 

Without seeing your coin, I'd say that given low values in the circulated grades that your coin is probably now become less than you thought it was.

I agree with what BillJones stated and will go a bit further by saying that a lot will depend on "what" was repaired, and "how" it was repaired.

 

Pictures would help all with better opinions.

I don't know that they do.

They won't tell you what they saw. You pay your money and guess for ever more.
