Rare coin collection found during raid at motel

If the collection is rare, I would think it wouldn't be too hard to locate the owner. You would think that the owner would have filed a police report on it immediately. Maybe the owner is on an extended vacation and not even aware that it was stolen.

The collection may also be of common coins and the news report is just calling it a rare coin collection because they don't know any better. It may not even be a collection, just an accumulation. After a couple years of reading reports in the non-numismatic press you come to realize that they almost never get the details right and all such reports should be taken with a LARGE grain of salt.
