FSH What's Left! (May 24) BU Washington quarters and Lincoln cents

14 posts in this topic

Hi All - I have the following coins and album pages that I'm eventually going to put up on eBay, but before I do, I thought I'd offer them here. I've not listed any prices below, as I'll accept any reasonable offer - as long as I'm not losing money and the offer is within reason according to current prices. Bear in mind that all of these coins are raw and have been sitting pretty in my album for years. I bought most of them raw and I can't guarantee grades with any of the grading services. My suggestion to you is that you buy these as album pieces, just as I did. I love the coins and truly hate to part with them but I simply have to now, so it's best they go to a true collector. I will send photos to your email address upon request - please PM me in interested. Thanks, Hoot

Meghrig Album pages

U.S. 2 cent pieces (one page), 11 slots, small and large motto 1864 through 1873. Great shape.

Lincoln cents, 1909 through 1961 (but not the '61-D). 7 pages. Great shape but with some light discoloration at a few edges.

Winged Liberty (Mercury) dimes. 1916 through 1945. Excellent condition.

Washington Quarters

1932-D WASHINGTON 25¢ BU – DETAILED, TONED, PRETTY. One of my favorite Washington quarters and a spectacularly original piece. The toning is somewhat uneven (which adds to the originality) and golden in color. It’s been a wonderful album piece for me for years.

1932-S WASHINGTON 25¢ BU TO CHOICE BU – MOSTLY WHITE, LIGHT TONING. A detailed, fetching piece, with ample luster but ever-so-light contact chatter in the fields. A great album piece, for certain, as it’s from my personal album collection.

1934 WASHINGTON 25¢ CHOICE BU – BLAZING LUSTER. A spectacularly lustrous coin. From my personal album collection.

1934-D WASHINGTON 25¢ CHOICE BU – HEAVY MOTTO LIGHT TONING. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST was struck in two different styles in 1934 at the Denver Mint; light and heavy. This coin represents the so-called Heavy motto, identified by thick block-style lettering. Detailed, definitely choice, with only mild contact chatter in the obverse left field. A great semi-key. From my personal album collection.

1935 WASHINGTON 25¢ BU- HIGHLY LUSTROUS. A genuinely spectacular coin for the luster – only some mild chatter limits the grade to BU, just shy of choice. From my personal album collection.

1935-D WASHINGTON 25¢ CHOICE BU – SILKY WHITE. Very pretty and original. From my personal album collection.

1936 WASHINGTON 25¢ CHOICE BU – BLAZING LUSTER, LIGHT TONING. An amazingly lustrous coin, with hints and highlights of golden toning. From my personal album collection.

1936-D WASHINGTON 25¢ CHOICE TO GEM BU – SPECTACULAR KEY DATE. Nothing shy of wonderful, this coin blazes with luster, with hints of golden toning obverse, and slightly more toning reverse, particularly in the upper half of the reverse. From my personal album collection.

1936-S WASHINGTON 25¢ BU – PURE WHITE. Very pretty and original. From my personal album collection.

1937 WASHINGTON 25¢ CHOICE BU – LIGHT GOLDEN TONING. Even golden toning, and ample luster. From my personal album collection.

1937-D WASHINGTON 25¢ CHOICE BU – LIGHTLY TONED. Not enough “bounce” in the luster for a gem, but a well-preserved early Washington quarter. From my personal album collection.

1937-S WASHINGTON 25¢ GEM BU – LIGHT RAINBOW TONING. A great, original coin with evident light rainbow tones on the obverse, and an overall thick skin. From my personal album collection.

1938 WASHINGTON 25¢ BU – ORIGINAL SKIN. An even, thick skin of toning over both surfaces, which are white. From my personal album collection.

1938-S WASHINGTON 25¢ CHOICE TO GEM BU – BLAZING WHITE. Bright and lustrous! From my personal album collection.

1939 WASHINGTON 25¢ GEM BU – LIGHT TONING, FETCHING! A very pretty piece that is a solid gem. From my personal album collection.

1939-D WASHINGTON 25¢ CHOICE BU – BLAZING WHITE. Highly detailed; spectacular luster. From my personal album collection.

1939-S WASHINGTON 25¢ GEM BU – VERY LIGHTLY TONED. A thin, even skin covers all surfaces, obverse and reverse, but a definite gem-quality coin. From my personal album collection.

1940 WASHINGTON 25¢ GEM BU – ORIGINAL WHITE SKIN. As if fresh from an original roll, this is a great piece. From my personal album collection.

1940-S WASHINGTON 25¢ GEM BU – FRACTURED DIE REVERSE! A spectacular coin, with a wonderful fractured die reverse. This is an excellent gem piece that will satisfy both the average collector and the specialist alike. From my personal album collection.

1941 WASHINGTON 25¢ GEM BU – LIGHTLY TONED, ORIGINAL. A thick skin covers the obverse, with a lighter, whiter reverse. From my personal album collection.

1941-D WASHINGTON 25¢ GEM BU – THICK WHITE SKIN. A pretty, purely white early Washington quarter. From my personal album collection.

1942 WASHINGTON 25¢ CHOICE BU – WHITE, PRETTY. Pretty, but some chatter in the obverse fields limits the grade. From my personal album collection.

1942-D WASHINGTON 25¢ GEM BU – BLAZING LUSTROUS GEM. Spectacularly white and lustrous. Quite a pretty purely white piece. From my personal album collection.

1942-S WASHINGTON 25¢ CHOICE TO GEM BU – EVEN GOLDEN TONE. Absolutely golden in color, with an even patina – very pretty! From my personal album collection.

1944 WASHINGTON 25¢ CHOICE BU – MILD TONING. Mild and even toning cover detailed surfaces.

1946 WASHINGTON 25¢ CHOICE BU – MILD GOLD TONING. A pretty coin that is nearly pure white but with a hint of even toning. From my personal album collection.

1946-S WASHINGTON 25¢ GEM BU – GORGEOUS, LUSTROUS, TONED MILDLY. Exceptionally lustrous and pretty. Well detailed with light, golden toing. From my personal album collection.

1949-D WASHINGTON 25¢ CHOICE BU – BLAZING WHITE. Purely white and lustrous. Some chatter in the obverse fields limit the grade. From my personal album collection.

Lincoln Cents

1909 V.D.B. LINCOLN 1¢ GEM BU RED-BROWN – PRETTY FIRST YEAR! A great piece – very pretty. From my personal album collection.

1909 LINCOLN 1¢ CHOICE BU RED-BROWN – EXCELLENT COIN. A great cent, with ample luster and a deep red appearance. From my personal album collection.

1910 LINCOLN 1¢ CHOICE BU RED-BROWN – GREAT COIN. Brassy, as many early Lincoln cents can be, but quite pretty. From my personal album collection.

1920 LINCOLN 1¢ GEM BU RED-BROWN – PRETTY TONING. A fantastically pretty coin with great luster. From my personal album collection.

1926 LINCOLN 1¢ GEM BU RED-BROWN, MOSTLY RED. An incredible strike on this piece – very pretty. From my personal album collection.

1928 LINCOLN 1¢ GEM BU BROWN – VERY PRETTY, LUSTROUS. Truly a spectacular coin, with unbelievable luster underlying a thick patina. This is the reason some people stick with collecting only “brown” early Lincoln cents. From my personal album collection.

1929 LINCOLN 1¢ GEM RED – EXCELLENT COIN! Very detailed and fetching. From my personal album collection.

1929-D LINCOLN 1¢ CHOICE AU – PECULIAR TONING, RED. This is a decent coin, but I think it must have been dipped long ago. Sort of a salmon-red with a few lustrous highlights. From my personal album collection.

1930 LINCOLN 1¢ GEM BU RED – SPECTACULAR COIN. A wonderfully spectacular coin that absolutely shimmers. From my personal album collection.

1930-D LINCOLN 1¢ CHOICE BU RED-BROWN. Pretty, but with the vestiges of a mild fingerprint on the obverse right field. A very worthy album piece.

1930-S LINCOLN 1¢ CHOICE BU RED-BROWN, MOSTLY RED, PRETTY. Deep red and lustrous with uneven bluish highlights. A very pretty coin in many ways, and an excellent album piece. From my personal album collection.

1931 LINCOLN 1¢ GEM BU RED – VERY LUSTROUS, PRETTY. An incredibly lustrous gem, that is evenly brassy over all surfaces. From my personal album collection.

1931-D LINCOLN 1¢ CHOICE BU RED – SOME RIM TONING. A wonderful coin that has some hints of toning at the rims but is predominantly red. From my personal album collection.

1931-S LINCOLN 1¢ CHOICE TO GEM BU RED-BROWN, KEY DATE!. An exceptional coin in many ways, including immaculate preservation of surfaces. The toning is admittedly unusual, as it is a mixture of golden and red tones with some mild hints of blue around the red on the reverse. Exceptionally lustrous. I would personally rate this as an excellent album coin.

1932 LINCOLN 1¢ CHOICE BU RED TO RED-BROWN – DETAILED! A predominantly red coin with great luster. From my personal album collection.

1932-D LINCOLN 1¢ CHOICE BU RED-BROWN – DEEP RED, PRETTY. A fantastic piece, with very fetching deep red toning and bluish rims. From my personal album collection.

1933 LINCOLN 1¢ CHOICE BU BROWN WITH AMPLE RED BENEATH. An excellent coin with a relatively even tone that makes the coin fall into the category of “brown” but still with ample red underlying the toning, making the coin visually pleasing.

1933-D LINCOLN 1¢ CHOICE BU RED TO RED-BROWN, VERY NICE. A pretty piece that is mostly red and has great luster and surfaces. From my personal album collection.

I am pleased to announce that having procured a private in-home viewing of the aforementioned Washies, four of them have joined the James "Doritios" Garcia micro-hoard of stunning luster Washington Quarters. These coins will proudly carry the esteemed Mark Hooten, Animasticus Collection pedigree for as long as I own them, or until such time as I am deemed unfit to collect coins, whichever shall come first.

"1935-D WASHINGTON 25¢ CHOICE BU – SILKY WHITE. Very pretty and original. From my personal album collection."

I call it a no-question MS-64, and luster blazes off this charming jewel with alacrity. Gorgeous!

"1935-S"

Not described in the original offering because few mortal eyes have ever dared view such a dynamic, gleaming beauty! Sunglasses are a prerequisite to enjoying this stunning MS-64

"1939-S WASHINGTON 25¢ GEM BU – VERY LIGHTLY TONED. A thin, even skin covers all surfaces, obverse and reverse, but a definite gem-quality coin. From my personal album collection."

PCGS once entombed this coin as MS-65, but it is now free to enjoy the same sunlight, air and freedom enjoyed by any worthy member of the numismatic world. Gem quality without question, with high-definition luster and razor sharp detail. Plastic is just that - plastic! I enjoy the coin!

"1940-S WASHINGTON 25¢ GEM BU – FRACTURED DIE REVERSE! A spectacular coin, with a wonderful fractured die reverse. This is an excellent gem piece that will satisfy both the average collector and the specialist alike. From my personal album collection."

Does the grade really matter when the reverse displays such remarkable character due to a grotesque and fascinating die break? I think not! But for those who care, it is a gem, and it is neat, and it is now my coin!

I would urge all fellow board members to partake quickly of these remarkable offerings. Mark has graded these coins nicely, if not even conservatively, and in every case, I think the eye-appeal exceeds technical merits. The population of available examples has already decreased by four! Do you really want to take a chance on missing out?
