Colonial - shipwreck reales

2 posts in this topic

a multitude of questions rolled into this one ...

With the rise in interest in 8 Reales and other 'Shipwreck' coinage

Can the general public get "the shipwreck certification" parameters on slabs - similar to the SS.Republic slabs.. and under what tier might that need to be ?

also .. if a Reales/Cob were submitted with it's original "certificate of Authenticity" from a 'Quote' noteable "expert" in the field - could the wrecks attributes be included on the slab ??

or

.. Would those shipwreck coins be considered 'tainted' and roll over to a NCS slab.

The requirements for Shipwreck Certification designations can be found on our website here:

http://www.ngccoin.com/shipwreck-coin-certification/shipwreck-effect-designation.asp

To have the name of a wreck appear on the NGC label, most often the coins must come directly from the salvor. Exceptions are made when clear provenance is known (such as for coins plated in reference works or sale catalogs published by the recovery group), however, most COA's and third-party COA's are not accepted.

Most often a shipwreck recovery coin without proper docs will be NGC Details Graded without wreck or ship name, or be returned uncertified.

Hope this helps.
