Massachusetts Abandoned Property Auction Begins Today

2 posts in this topic

It is amazing how many coins and currency items are part of the abandoned property auctions. Well, starting today, the Massachusetts Treasury Abandoned Property Division is posting 100 items every other day until July 1 to sell off everything in their inventory. This article shows an image with a lot of currency. I am sure there will be quite a few coins and bullion items, too. Obviously, proceeds go to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, but it may be an opportunity to find something good.

You can find their auction through user state.treasurer.cahill.

Other abandoned property auctions I know about are:

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot -- there's only one currency lot currently listed

Pennsylvania State Treasury -- 17 numismatic items listed

Toronto Police Auctions -- no numismatic items listed

Colorado State Auction -- posts sporadically

California State Controller -- not on eBay, they run their own auction site

Texas Unclaimed Property Auction -- currently 17 numismatic items

And those are the ones I know about. I am sure there are more out there. The best mix have come from Pennsylvania and Maryland. I am looking forward to see what comes out of Massachusetts!
