Hi Amanda, Ithink that the silver block started in 1878 with B, and the gold had started in 1882 with block lettle C. Amarillo

8--this is a total guess since i don't even understand what is meant by blocks.

Stars were used for the last note or certificate in each block in addition to being used in the serial number for replacement notes and certificates.
