Pidcock’s Conder token attribution requested

I would welcome opinions as to grade (VG, F or VF?) and value as well as the D&H number and mintage. Token is 30mm with a plain edge.

Obverse: African Crown Crane + "The African Crown Crane – Pidcock’s Exhibition"

Reverse: Zebra + "Pidcock’s Grand Menagerie – Exeter – Change – London"

Thanks!

Middlesex #451 - listed as scarce.

I would go with VG for the grade on this one. No idea on mintage for this one but I don't imagine it is a very large number.

I'm envious, I don't have a 451 yet.

If I ever chance upon a better one (unlikely) or decide to sell off my Pidcock's tokens (even more unlikely) I will offer you the 451 for $10 more than I paid simply to insure it goes to an appreciative collector. OK?

Any idea how much it's worth in VG?

$50 less than you paid for it. :roflmao:

Just kidding!

You are probably right Chris, but I wanted it and it's only money, eh?

I haven't the slightest idea. I think it's pretty cool looking, too!

I like how they spelled EXHIBITION.

"There's no room for the H!"

"Leave it out mate, no one will notice..."

Apparently no one did.

On the contrary, everyone did notice and kept exclaiming, "Where the "H" is it?"

Actually, I believe the lack of the H was noticed.

There is a second African Crown Crane die in the Pidcock series which does spell EXHIBITION correctly. This die also added dots between the words and added an apostrophe in PIDCOCK's. The second die was paired with the lion laying down with a dog obverse die on #435.

Your African Crane die was also paired with the Wanderow die on #458.

Farthing is absolutely correct, the lack of the H was noticed.

I finally broke down and bought the new PDF version of the D&H book "The Ultimate Guide To Conder Tokens..." and I really like it. It's easy and very fast to navigate and I like how I can print out certain sections and jot down little notes without ruining a book. Also you can zoom in on the photos which is nice.

You can't copy the files but Numisource lets you download several copies so that's not an issue. With a copy on my home computer, my work computer and two USB thumb drives I am covered no matter where I am.

And the price was very fair considering the amount of work that went into this.
