FS stands for Fivaz/Stanton, the authors of The Cherrypickers' Guide to Rare Die Varieties. This is NGC's primary variety reference for post 1838 coinage. VP stands for VarietyPlus and is used for varieties we attribute that are not in Fivaz/Stanton.

You'll find an equivalency table on NGC's website, but this is currently undergoing revision. Only the cent section is up to date, but the work is being completed as quickly as possible.
