keithdagen
What denomination has had at least one example struck at every mint 1793-1933?
EVillageProwler
Half Eagle. You could've extended the period to the present, as they were also minted at the West Point mint. EVP

coppercoins-migration
They struck dollars at Dahlonega and Charlotte? Not sarcasm, just a question - I don't have a clue one way or the other.
davefperry
Thanks for the help. It has to be the cent or the 50 cent piece.
EVillageProwler
Is the gold dollar the same as the silver dollar? Back when our coinage was backed by precious metal content, gold dollar legally wasn't the same as the silver dollar. EVP
coppercoins-migration
I can answer definately on the cent..none were ever struck at Dahlonega, Charlotte, Carson City, or New Orleans. A total of 8 US mints...the "C" and "D" (Dahlonega) mints were gold only. Others were "CC", "D" (Denver), "O", "P" (or plain), "S", and "W". Cents have been reported to have been struck at Denver and San Francisco without mint marks (1965-1967) and at West Point without mint marks (1973-1974). Since Charlotte and Dahlonega ONLY struck gold, the answer has to be a gold coin...I'm with EVP on this one, even though I don't know much of anything about gold...I'm sure he knows his stuff. EVillageProwler
That's fine w/ me, 'cuz my only gold dollar is holed. (It is, however, a D-mint.) EVP
davefperry
It must be the 50 cent piece. Coins weren't struck at Dahlonega, Charlotte, Carson City, or New Orleans in 1793.
davefperry
Oops, and the only circulation coins from 1933 were cents or half dollars.
Tradedollarnut
I don't think he meant struck in every year, he meant struck at every mint that has operated during that time frame.
coppercoins-migration
Okay, EVP...holed or not...I'll take it. Deal! Oh...did I mention that you shouldn't expect a package in return? I don't have any silver dollars. !

keithdagen
That didn't take too long, EVP. And you're right, I forgot about the modern commems, but was thinking more along the lines of the classic pieces.
keithdagen
They struck dollars at Dahlonega and Charlotte? Not sarcasm, just a question - I don't have a clue one way or the other. Couple of gold dollars were struck at these branch mints, but they are considered as a separate denomination from the silver dollars.
keithdagen
I don't think he meant struck in every year, he meant struck at every mint that has operated during that time frame. Correct, because there are no denomiations that have not had some kind of year gap in the mintages.
