Any 1793 chain large cent

8 posts in this topic

Any large cent collectors that have a 1793 chain cent they would like to show. Not many out there that grade fine or better. Most are fr to ag and don't really show much on both the reverse and obverse.

Here a circulated example from my collection. It is an S-4, the periods variety.

Chain cents in general are not that rare, but they are popular. Really choice pieces with no problems are scarce. This one does have an obverse scratch, but it's fairly nice for the type.

I don't agree with that last part. Actually, there are many chain cents that do have a lot of detail on both sides. The problem is that most of the nicer ones aren't available on the market, since they tend to stay in collections.

Unfortunately, many chain cents do also suffer environmental damage, too, which lowers their net grades considerably.
