I picked up this Double eagle copy about a year ago. Can anyone tell me anything about it?

It's a spielmark (spielmarke) token used in games. Some of these are quite common, though I do not have a website address where you can get a more detailed breakdown of the pieces.

Anyone have any idea what time frame this token is from?

These game counters were made and used during the 1850s-60s. Your variety is number 1220/1220 in the catalog by L. B. Fauver titled American Counters Part 1: Double Eagle and Eagle Gold. He rated it R-7 (10-20 known), but I believe it is slightly more common than that.

Is the die crack an indicator of this variety?

The example plated in Fauver's book is not cracked, so your piece must be a later die state.
