2004 S$1 Silver American Eagle MS70 Pop #'s Appear Low??

3 posts in this topic

Just looked at the pop report on the 2004 S$1 Silver American Eagles for MS70's to date. Over 31,000 coins graded with 459 in MS70. This is trending @ 1.5% in MS70 compared with 3.0% in 2003, and also lower than 2002.

Are your graders finding the quality decreased on the 2004 Eagles? The #'s seem to indicate this. Thanks

Tom,

A very good observation regarding this year's mint state Silver Eagles. NGC is finding the quality so far this year to be less than what we found for the 2003 issues. Keep in mind, however, that we are only one month into grading these coins, while the figure for 2003 includes a longer stretch of time (while not necessarily larger quantities). I only point this out as the quality of future quantities might increase, pulling the percentage up.

At this time, however, we are finding the MS-70 grades harder to attain due to the lower overall quality of the coins graded so far.
