Edgeview holders question

2 posts in this topic

On the edgeview holders, were the three prong holders an early experiment on expanding them to other series or is it a recent one? If it is recent, is it going to be a coming thing or has it been tried and rejected?

Hi Conder. Thanks for your question.

NGC uses three-prong holders on all $2.50 Indians and $5 Indians because the placement of the mintmark on these issues is close to the edge and would have been obstructed by a prong. By placing the prong at the 6:00 position, the mintmark is always visible.

We tested a number of different designs and ultimately concluded that four prongs is best. Thus, we use four wherever possible. We have used three prongs for these two issues since the new holder launched.
