British coin double die?

8 posts in this topic

I found this in a box of junk. Looks like some major doubling.

Is this common?

I know its pretty well worn, but anyone want to guess at a value. My Krause books only go back to 1800. Thanks.

I would guess that it is double struck and not a doubled die.

Early errors don't usually hold a lot of extra value. They aren't heavily collected.

Spiny, No the other side is normal.

Greg, That was my thought also. But I really don't know much about European coining processes. I didn't it would be worth much either, but it is kind of neat.

Why couldn't it have been a 1955 Lincoln cent?! grin.gif

Look on the bright side, you picked up something neat for a tiny fraction of the price of that 1955 DD Lincoln. Probably not too many of them laying around in junkboxes.
