Expected maybe $50 or $75 at most, but NOOO! They also had a dime, quarter, and half.

I'm not questioning anyone's right to buy what they want but that seems kind of like a retarted amount of money to spend on that?

I don't think it was a cancellation of the auction, rather it is a U.S. Mint cancellation of an error coin using the new waffle style technology.
