400+ fakes on eBay – from China

4 posts in this topic

The following link is to just one Chinese seller on eBay who has more

than 400 fakes for sale, the majority of which are of U.S.coins. It is

well known that such fakes can be purchased in quantity without the

word REPLICA.

One wonder which is the more dishonest, eBay for allowing this to

continue or the Chinese government for promoting fakes.

He's not breaking any US laws.

He's not breaking any Chinese laws.

What's the problem?

It is also not against Chinese law to forge TPG slabs. The “coins” being sold by this seller have REPLICA added after striking, which ought to be of concern to all collectors.

I dare say that most all of the replicas that I have seen had the word "COPY" or "REPLICA" added or punched in after the piece was struck or molded. I don't see where that is a problem. It's only when the piece does not have those markings that it is illegal to sell them.
