Bent Planchet

1 post in this topic

I posted this question on the conservation forum, but received no replies. That is probably because I should have posted it here, I surmise.

I have had coins rejected for grading because of a "Bent Planchet." This particular kind of "detail" is absent from the list of irregularities provided by NCS/NGC on their details grading as defects, but I don't argue with the rejection criteria. It seems quite reasonable. But can this be corrected?

Can a bent planchet be straightened? Actually, I guess the term would be 'flattened."

The premise here is the "bend" is minor. Seems like this would be an acceptable conservation technique, and likely possible without noticeable distortion to the edge, obverse, or reverse.

Awaiting Expert Opinion,
