Is currency current?

4 posts in this topic

Like, what is the meaning of the word currency? I supposed that paper money in supply is 'current' and old paper money destroyed by the bureau of engraving or whatever...but then, why aren't coins called 'currency'. I mean, they are currency...aren't they?

I guess currency can be used as a term of barter or a 'negotiable' instrument. In tribal africa, goats and chickens are used as currency. I guess you can say coins are currency also. In the numismatic world, I guess we need to define the two in more detail, so coin and currency. I don't think current and currency are interchangeable crazy.gif
