Does NGC use PVC flips?

2 posts in this topic

Ongoing thread indicates that NGC ships/returns coins in flips that contain PVC. Rather than speculate I am going to the experts. Are all the flips in use by NGC PVC-free?

Thank you in advance for any reply!

Thanks for your question.

NGC does not use flips that contain PVC. Coins that are returned uncertified are placed in non-plasticized flips.

In previous years, a coin that was not encapsulated by NGC was placed in a polybag and then the wrapped coin was put in a plasticized “soft” flip. We conducted a review of this practice and concluded to remove all materials from the NGC grading process that were not archival-safe. Our remaining supplies of PVC flips were properly discarded, and we now purchase only flips that are free of PVC.
