how to remove coins from slabs, and future reslab?

2 posts in this topic

Is there a generally accepted method of removing a coin from a slab (I want to remove several coins from slabs to mount in an album).

Also, should I save the label to use for re-submitting the coin to re-slab in the future, or does it make any difference once the coin is removed from the slab?

NGC uses a vise to remove coins with minimal damage to the plastic and thus risk to the coin. Most dealers use a particular type of pliers, and this works well enough, though with a bit more mess.

Ideally, you should return the labels to NGC after cracking out a coin, so that we can remove it from the census and keep that data accurate. You may also include it when resubmitting a coin, but for the reason given above. The graders have no way of knowing for certain whether that label originally went with the submitted coin, and it will have minimal influence on their current evaluation.
