Some Advice Please

4 posts in this topic

My mom e-mails me about some coins her mother(my grandmother) has. My mom says: "My mom has 8 silver dollars and several Kennedy half dollars. About 4 of the silver dollars are dated 1776-1976 marking America's 200th anniversary." I told my mom that much of their value depends on their condition and to not attempt to clean them.

Any additional advice I should give her? '

Suppose she wants to sell them, what's the best way to go?

Assuming these coins are not mint, what are they probably worth?

Please do not PM me with your answers. Thanks! smile.gif

The bicentennial dollars aren't really silver. They may be silver clad. Those and the Kennedys aren't worth much of a premium unless they're in pristine condition. As for the other dollars the condition, dates and mintmarks would help establish value. You had good advice on not cleaning anything.

I assume (maybe incorrectly) from your post that these coins were pulled out of circulation? However, if they are from Mint Sets, clad silver or proof in high grades, they could be worth much more.
