This is one ugly coin

This 1899 Barber 50c has greenish gouges on it. The obverse has an overall reddish tint. I didn't put up any photos of the reverse because it just has normal wear on it. Is this mint damage or post mint? 1899-S50cobv-5.jpg1899-S50obv-4.jpg

Maybe the poor thing fell apart and somebody tried to glue it back together. I've got another angle of it if I can get it to load from Photobucket that shows the grooves.

Definitely glue or a petrified rubber band - acetone will remove it, but it will leave behind some light streaks where the metal underneath didn't grow patina.

You all appear to be correct. Just a light scrape with my fingernail(coin couldn't look any worse) and some of the gunk came off. Will give it a spring bath.
