QUESTION:

 

The geographical letter “W” found on National Currency was used to indicate a geographical region of the country. What states were included under the letter “W”?

The nation was divided into six divisions:

N-Northeast

W-West

E- East

S-South

M-Midwest

P-Pacific

 

"W" States includes 11 states: Ariziona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

Could you please verify where exactly is this information comes from? I would have thought it would have been the states within the 9th, 10th, and 11th Federal Reserve districts but would exclude MO, and AZ since only a very small section of these two states were part of the 10th and 11th districts. Or was it because these districts did not exist and some of the current states were only territories?
