New Zealand Kiwis

20 posts in this topic

Another board member asked me to post pictures of these if I was able to win them. I had been hoping to pick up the 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 from a seller today to go with my MS70 2008 and complete the set (the 2009 coins mark the begining of a new series with a 3 year run). Sadly the prices went a little higher than I'd hoped and I had to give up on the 2007 so I could use the funds to secure the more important early coins without going over budget. Ah well, still not a bad day.

These will be sent in to NGC for grading this month to join my signature set.

Nice one, glad I didn't steal them from you now ;)lol

Good luck, they should grade high in general. Minted here in Oz by the RAM.. laser/computer die engraving machine was added in 2004 ;)

Spot under the word silver in the first pic ? otherwise all look great shots

Regarding the spot, I don't know because they aren't my pics and I haven't seen them yet, but based on the image I'm inclined to say that that's a lighting/plastic effect and not the coin. The seller also told me that these had no spots on them.

These things can be few and far between. I got lucky in that I happened to be looking for them when this seller wanted to offer a complete set individually. I'm starting to think I may regret passing on that 2007. (Lord knows when I'll see another.) Here's where I ordered a pre-graded 2008 Kiwi:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=350100486146

Based on the listing, it's supposed to come with the OGP, but I can't say for sure because I haven't received mine yet.

If you decide to persue the set, it's going to be expensive relative to most other Ultra-Moderns.

The coins are packed up and should go into the mail soon. The 2004 is probably going to MS69 unfortunately. The 2005 and the 2006 I think might have a serious shot at MS70. I'm sending in a 2006 Panda and 2 2008 Libertads to finish out the submission.

World Modern is so much more expensive than US Modern.

Tell me about it.. 60 Kookas really hurt my card

Well, maybe when I have some cash available again I'll check to see what extras you might have available.

They were received on Monday. They were changed to "Scheduled for Grading" on Tuesday. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for quick results. :wishluck:

001 2006 SILVER NEWZEALAND NORTH ISLAND BROWN KIWI $1

002 2005 SILVER NEWZEALAND KIWI $1

003 2004 SILVER NEWZEALAND SPOTTED KIWI $1

004 2006 CHINA PANDA S10Y

005 2008MO MEXICO S1ONZA

006 2008MO MEXICO S1ONZA

I'm wondering why the Kiwis are only indicated as "$1" instead of "S$1" to indicate the silver.

They've moved into Quality Control... Hopefully soon...

I really hate it when submissions go to Quality Control on Thursday. Nothing ever seems to get finalized on Friday. Now I'm going to have to wait the weekend to hopefully get grades on Monday. In the grand scheme, it's no big deal, but I wanted those grades today.

Rock on!

:acclaim: The results for the Kiwis were great, with the 2008 that I bought pre-graded I now have half the set in MS70 (if you include the 2009 "icons" coin as a Kiwi, which I do, otherwise I have 60%).

The 2004 and 2005 would have been too expensive for this, but if I can find another 2006 Kiwi at a reasonable price I may try again for a 70. I would love it if I could ultimately have a complete set in 70 that I got graded mostly by myself. Even if it's never made a competitive set, that would be fun to have.

I think they're getting hotter. Their low populations make them hard to find and expensive when they come up. The 2004 has an estimated release of ~2500. When I won my 2004 Kiwi I paid ~$165 and I've seen dealers asking $180+ for them.
