Grading and light source and more

2 posts in this topic

Hello !

A lot of grading books mention a pinpoint light source , what is this .

Also an incandesent light bulb. Is this a normal light bulb if yes hoe strang (how many watts .?

What is a Tensor type lamp ?

Is there a way I can tell NGC to move a coin to NCS if they cannot grade it?

Normally they send it back and I have to send it again this time to NCS .

Thanks Gunter

Gunter,

Your first questions are answered in the previous post.

Tensor is simply a brand name of lamp that has a small, very bright bulb. NGC doesn't use these for grading or attribution, but we do rarely see mobile dealers carrying them from table to table at coin shows.

NGC will not automatically move No Grade coins over to NCS. When in doubt as to whether a coin will grade at NGC, you may submit it directly to NCS. If the NCS evaluator believes the coin is NGC-gradeable, he will have it moved to NGC for a small transfer fee, but the process doesn't work in the other direction.
